Chase Center: A Pearl Rises from the Bay

Join us for a free evening webinar on February 17, 2022 at 6:00 PM MST!

Project Profile:

The new home of the Golden State Warriors is in the Mission Bay neighborhood of San Francisco. Originally a shallow bay off the San Francisco Bay, the site was reclaimed in the late 1880s to early 1900s. The subsurface stratigraphy consists of poorly placed fill, weak and compressible Bay Mud, very dense Colma formation sand, moderately strong Old Bay Clay, and Franciscan bedrock. Liquefaction, lateral spreading, and consolidation are all hazards at the site. This talk will present the history of Mission Bay, subsurface conditions, geologic hazards and geotechnical issues, and the foundation solutions for support of the new Chase Center development. In addition, the presentation will provide an overlook of the construction of the shoring and foundation system for the new arena complex.

Each mentee is able to ask any questions they would like to have input from industry professionals from. Overall the event went very well and both mentor and mentee's were able to say that they were able to learn something from the event and hope to return again next year.

Rogers Place Arena Tour

By: Matthew Lui

On May 8th 2015, a group of twenty CSCE YoPros were fortunate enough to be able to take a tour new downtown arena being constructed by PCL Construction Management.  After the safety orientation, we travelled to the depths and peaks of the new home for the Edmonton Oilers.  For some of us, it would be the only time that we would be able to check out the executive parking underneath the facility and Oiler’s changing room, workout facility and lounge.  We then got a look at the work going on at the actual rink and seating area where fans will be cheering on McDavid and having the opportunity to see all the steel and concrete work that is being done and getting a great view of the downtown core.  Overall, it was a great tour hosted by PCL Construction and a change to see the work in progress of the most superior facility of its type in the NHL family.
